# Migrating video files onto Video Center

Migrate your existing videos from your legacy system onto Arc XP's Video Center platform

You can migrate your existing videos from your legacy system onto Arc XP’s Video Center platform. If you have a Customer Enablement (CE) contract in place, the CE Team can assist with the migration.

However, note that Arc XP charges for the video files that require re-encoding onto Video Center (including mezzanine-only imports).

Progressive MP4s and HLS MPEG-2 do **not** require re-encoding, and Arc XP does **not** charge for these specific file types.

## How video migration works

During import, Video Center evaluates the `streams` object in the provided Arc XP Native Specification (ANS) structure.

- Video Center attempts to import and store each stream it finds (and each MP4).
- The largest MP4 file in the `streams` object is treated as the **source** video.

You can upload multiple encodings for a given video (import the whole ladder).

> **Note:**
>
> An encoding ladder is a group of renditions at various bitrates. These “ladders” are used for adaptive bitrate streaming.

You must set the query parameter `encode=true` flag when you want Video Center to encode and create a new adaptive-bitrate stream ladder for your imported source video.
