# Author API

The Authors application provides a CRUD API for direct retrieval and modification of Author objects. The Authors application does not adhere to the ANS author specification by default, although many of the fields are identical. You can request a response in the ANS 0.5.8 author format by providing the query parameter ?ans=0.5.8. Author objects are extensible, so you can provide fields to the API that are not included in the API specification. However, they are reflected in the UI.
